Lapsong Souchong is the most well-known and popular of the Chinese Black Teas.
Wu Mountain's USDA Certified Organic Lapsang Souchong has been smoked with lingonberries to create a robust smokey flavor with a sweet and fruity aroma. It is certified USDA Organic, and is a Premium selection that is truly unique.
Lapsong Souchong tea is loaded with antioxidants, particularly polyphenols and catechins. Antioxidants have been proven to lower the levels of bad cholesterol, such as LDL, and regulate those that are beneficial for our health. The antioxidants also strengthen the immune system and ward off cancer. A major contributing factor to the development of cancer and many terminal illnesses is excessive oxidative damage caused by free radicals. The polyphenols and catechins in black tea reverse the damage caused by free radicals, protecting the cells and DNA, detoxifying the organs and getting rid of inflammation. Additionally, Lapsang Souchong contains an amino acid called L-theanine, which is able to enhance our sense of calmness and stress-relief without nullifying any of the energizing benefits provided by the caffeine in Black Tea.
This smoky black tea bodies a very complex flavor and needs a bit of steeping time to balance out everything that’s going on. Start by bringing water to a near boil (90-95 Celsius). Measure 2 teaspoons of the Lapsang Souchong to put in your tea strainer/infuser, teapot (4 teaspoons for large teapots), or directly into an empty mug. Infuse the water with the tea and wait 90 seconds. The smoky flavor will emerge immediately, but allow time for the sweet, malty flavors to come out. Chocolaty undertones will need time to catch up with the smoky overtones but the two flavors balance each other to create a perfectly well-rounded flavor profile. There is no need to remove the leaves from the water at any point. When you finish your first cup simply re-steep the tea by infusing the tea with more hot water. This tea can be re-steeped 4+ times.
