Lapsang Souchong is a time-tested classic, famous for being ‘the original black tea’, created in Northern Fujian, China circa the 16th century. The most notable feature of Lapsang Souchong is it’s smokey flavor, as traditional processing technique requires the leaves be smoked with pinewood prior to the final baking/drying step. Although the smokey-fruity-sweet profile may not be for everyone, Lapsang Souchong has maintained it's dedicated following since the 1500’s. Ever heard of The Boston Tea Party? It was Lapsang Souchong whose high taxes pushed colonists over the limit (don’t worry, we don’t charge sales tax or shipping fees on our Lapsang Souchong). In modern times, Wu Mountain Tea is keeping the tradition alive, but with a new twist, offering a USDA-Certified Organic Lapsang that marries old-fashioned flavor with the rigorous standards of modern organic practices. Due to it’s unique aroma profile, Lapsang serves as an exceptional tea pairing for a number of other smoke-scented delicacies, like barrel-aged bourbon or even smoked salmon. At $25 per ¼ lb (227 grams), there’s little downside to introducing some historical savor to your modern palate.
